4. Artificial leather in bags, shoes, and other items.

When it comes to the idea that genuine leather cannot be wiped with alcohol, some people will say that leather is not as delicate as genuine leather, so it is okay to use alcohol for cleaning!

As it turns out, taking things for granted can lead to regrettable consequences. A bag worth tens of thousands of dollars can be ruined even after being wiped with alcohol!

The reason is that the patterned bags have a PVC coating, and under the corrosive effect of alcohol, the printed coating will peel off, become blurry, or even disappear completely.

A bag without its classic logo loses its value as a purchase.

Note: In addition to bags, other synthetic leather items will also experience varying degrees of dissolution of the leather's surface coating and oils upon contact with alcohol, resulting in problems such as fading, cracking, hardening, and uneven coloring.

Besides using sake for cleaning, you should also be extra careful with alcohol disinfectant sprays, as they can cause varying degrees of corrosion if accidentally sprayed onto leather items.

5. Security door

The security door in my mind should be durable, so when it comes into contact with cleaning agents and disinfectants, I don't feel as much of a sense of vigilance.

However, the things that seem safest are often the ones that can strike you unexpectedly!

The picture above shows the result of spraying an alcohol-based disinfectant on a door during the mask-wearing period. It was only after seeing the damage to the door that I belatedly realized that the alcohol had corroded the paint layer.

Reminder: In addition to painted doors, it is also not recommended to wipe doors with a film coating or handles with alcohol or disinfectants or cleaners containing alcohol.

6. Car interior

In addition to door handles, car handles, especially those used by ride-hailing drivers, are also disinfected and cleaned with alcohol-based products during special times to reduce germs.

The problem is, even if the disinfection goal is achieved, you should also be prepared for other concurrent consequences.

If the interior surface has a film or coating, contact with alcohol will inevitably cause varying degrees of dissolution of the surface coating or protective layer, damaging the original texture and making it look older.

Without a protective layer, the alcohol will react with the dyes or pigments inside the plastic, causing the color to fade and become mottled.

Recommendation: To avoid these situations, wiping with water is the safest method. If you are concerned about the spread of bacteria, you can increase the frequency of cleaning.

7. Solid wood furniture

Logically speaking, solid wood furniture, being a natural material, should not have serious consequences from cleaning agents.

However, don't forget that ordinary solid wood furniture is not made of raw wood. The surface is coated with paint, varnish or wax to increase color and improve texture. Any of these can be dissolved by organic solvents, and alcohol happens to be an organic solvent. That's one reason.

Secondly, alcohol has strong penetrability and fast volatility. It can penetrate into the wood and quickly remove the wood's moisture, causing the wood to shrink, deform, or even crack.

Then there's the fact that alcohol reacts with pigments, which also affects the beauty and value of solid wood furniture itself;

Finally, there is the issue of safety. Alcohol is flammable, and solid wood is the best fuel. If the two come into contact with a fire source or a high-temperature object, the consequences could be disastrous. Therefore, it is not recommended to let alcohol come into contact with solid wood.

Reminder: If solid wood furniture gets stained by alcohol, you can try using medicated oil to restore it. The menthol and camphor in medicated oil have dissolving properties that can dissolve the alcohol stains and restore the smoothness of the wood surface.
