6 DIY Christmas Candle Ideas to Add a Cozy Glow

Wood wick candles offer the nostalgic crackle of a miniature fireplace, making them perfect for the holidays. Housed in a simple tin, they achieve a rustic, cozy aesthetic.

1. Materials Needed

Acquire a small metal tin or container, soy wax flakes, a wooden wick with a clip, a wick sticker or hot glue, a wooden stir stick, and Christmas-themed fragrance oils like ""Fireside"" or ""Christmas Tree.""

2. Step-by-Step Instructions

Use the wick sticker or a dot of hot glue to secure the metal base of the wood wick to the center of the tin's bottom. Melt the soy wax. Once melted and slightly cooled, add your fragrance oil. Pour a small amount of wax into the tin to anchor the wick, let it set, then use two chopsticks or a wick holder to keep the wick centered and upright. Pour the remaining wax, leaving about half an inch of space at the top. As the candle cools, it will form sinkholes; top it off with reserved melted wax to create a smooth surface. Let it cure for at least 48 hours before lighting.

3. Tips for Success

Trimming the wood wick to 1/8 inch before each burn is crucial for a clean, crackling flame and to prevent excessive sooting. The first burn should be long enough to melt the wax across the entire surface to prevent ""tunneling."" The rustic tin makes this candle an excellent gift for anyone who loves cozy, cabin-like vibes.
