These couples were sitting in a bar in Pittsburgh in 1959, and while at first glance, that doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary, don't forget the decade it was. Interracial couples were illegal in most places in America, a sad and disturbing reality many people faced.

It wouldn't be until almost ten years after this photo was taken that interracial marriage would be legal throughout the United States.
