Add some alkaline substances to the pot, such as baking soda, baking powder, or flour. These items have good cleaning and absorbent properties. Then pour in a small amount of white vinegar, enough to cover the burnt area. Bring to a boil, then let it sit for a while.
After about 10 minutes, the burnt stains will be effectively softened, making them easier to remove.
